Sports Basement

Located in Berkeley California, the San Francisco-based Sports Basement chain tenant improvement project required the conversion of an historic skating rink into a new 71,862sf retail store, keeping the open floor plan and even pouring concrete in an ice hockey rink configuration. Designed by San Francisco-based practice Wilk Architecture, the space has a ski lodge feel to the high, open beams, which should inspire the shopper to stick up on the snow sports gear and apparel.

A little over 5,000sf of the building will be specifically dedicated as a community space available for community meetings and events. The project includes a total of 44 off-street vehicle parking spaces, two off-street loading spaces, 64 off-street bike parking spaces and an additional 40 employee bicycle parking spaces within the store. Construction work entailed structural enhancements, seismic upgrades, plumbing and fire sprinkler installment, electrical service, roof repair, floor renovations, and interior and exterior restoration.
